An Important and Relatable Article to all Women in Sports
Included above is a visual article and study that a good friend of mine found and related to myself. It demonstrates through images and statistics how a background in sport can improve women's leadership potential and help women get a job. I like the simplicity and message of this article because I think that it relates to myself and my skills as an employee and athlete. I think that many of my attributes as an employee are a direct result of my experience, confidence, and team drive as an athlete. I am a strong believer in the benefits of team sports as they relate to the working world.
Awards and Achievements
In the slide show of pictures below I exhibit my many achievements through sport, especially in my past 4 years as a Humber Hawk. I believe that achievements through sport are also of importance to showcase myself. Starting in my first year of school both the rugby team and volleyball team won provincial championships. In my second year we both won provincial titles again. In my third year we only won the title in volleyball and brought home a provincial silver medal in rugby. Currently in my fourth year we have already won the provincial championship in rugby and the volleyball season is just underway. If you have lost count that is 6 provincial championships under my belt and one silver medal along with it. I hope to end the volleyball season with one more amazing championship to add to my collection. In my third year I was appointed a member of the second team all stars for the volleyball west division and also an all star in the provincial championships final match. I received a player of the game award during the provincial tournament playoffs as well. More recently in the ocaa rugby finals I was awarded the honour of being Man of the Match scoring the team high of 9 points out of 19, scoring one try and two conversions.
Included among this slide show is my two athlete of the week for the OCAA. In my second year I was recognized as a rugby athlete after scoring a pair of tries in one of our final league matches. I was also more recently recognized as rugby athlete of the week in my fourth year after our championships match where I scored one try and two conversions, as mentioned above. In other OCAA highlights I also hold a scoring record for most conversions made in a single match

I was recommended to my position at Novita Wellness Institute by my best friend who's aunt owned the facility. She said that they were in need of high energy, friendly, hard working individuals to greet members upon entry and who had a professional demenour. I was interviewed for the position and hired quickly after. When my friend initially heard about the job from her aunt she thought of me first and knew that I would be a perfect fit. I continued to work at Novita Wellness for approximately six months.

My fourth year placement supervisor on site began to introduce me to fellow athletic directors and faculty members as "Junior Jane" referring to myself being the younger, 'in training' version of herself. We both have so much in common. I look up to her in many ways as both my mentor and teacher. I felt very honoured for her to refer to me as the junior of herself. She would also being my introduction with my many athletic accolades and achievements, because in the world of teaching phys ed, everyone seems to be interested in that.

I have a long standing history with the Newmarket Soccer Club both as a player in their house league and rep level programs as well as their referee employment. I played house league soccer from age 5 to 8 when I was scouted to play in the clubs rep program, where I stayed from age 8 to 18. I began my referee training at the age of 12 and obtained my certification. I started out reffing the younger house league age groups and was also an assistant official for the elder age groups. Because of my experience in soccer I was even given some of the senior women's games early in my career. I quickly moved up in the ranks and was able to be the head official for many older age groups as well as the younger rep games held by the club. My supervisor was always very accommodating with the reffing schedule, knowing that I had many of my own games and practices. Her and I worked together for many soccer seasons and when I could not referee for one summer due to an obligation to school I felt bad to not be around for the entire summer. She quickly told me that as long as she was still a part of the soccer club there would be a position available for me. My reliability and commitment were notable attributes in this scenario.

One of my third year practicum courses was 'group exercise and cycling'. In this class we were learning how to be good teachers of group exercise as well as spin class. In the first few weeks of class m instructor pulled me aside. I had originally thought that I was in trouble for something. We then proceeded to have a serious talk about my abilities in the class. She had singled me out and noticed that I had a real skill for the course. She told me that if I was able to take the class and myself more seriously in the position that I would have a real future in it. I would never imagine myself being 'good' at teaching a group exercise class but the fact that she pointed out to me that I did, in fact, have the skills and tools to achieve something great in the class it boosted my confidence and also work effort in the class. She said she could see me in the field and recommended I take my certification for both group exercise as well as cycling.
